Where Bling Empire’s Kelly Mi Li and her mom stand a year on from going into business

The lives of the Bling Empire stars are full of glitz and glam, that’s for sure. But, make no doubt about it, the reality stars are just like everyone else when it comes to their relationships. When Kelly Mi Li first burst onto the scene three years ago, people got a glimpse into what she and her mom’s bond was like.

These days, Bling Empire star Kelly is a mom herself. She shares how the relationship with her mom has changed in recent years and explains where they stand. During her appearance on the Netflix show, Kelly and her mother butted heads a fair few times. She describes her mom as a “traditional tiger mom,” speaking to People.

Kelly and her mom’s relationship

It’s no secret that Kelly and her mom didn’t see eye-to-eye during some episodes of Bling Empire.

However, the reality TV star shares some adorable news that she and her mother are on better terms these days.

She explains how since having her own daughter, Mili, whose now 20 months old, her relationship with her own mom has improved.

Kelly says the two have grown close and shares a piece of advice from her mom that warms her heart:

“My mom’s a traditional tiger mom and nothing was ever good enough… For people that watched this in season 3 of Bling Empire, my mom really made up. I think one of the best… advice that’s really meaningful to me was when she was like, ‘Don’t be as hard on her as she was on me.’ So that was really heartwarming.”

Bling Empire star went into business with her mom

Not only have Kelly and her mom grown closer as a new generation joins their family, but the two also went into business together.

Last year, they launched a chili sauce brand called Hot Jiang.

Sharing their heartwarming story upon the product’s launch, Kelly wrote on Instagram:

“If you asked us five years ago where we’d be today, we probably wouldn’t have imagined that Hot Jiang®️ would be a part of our story. Our mother-daughter relationship was once strained due to the typical Asian cultural expectations to be perfect, making it difficult for us to communicate openly…”

She explains how cooking helped them to bond, adding: “But a lot has changed since then. Our transformation began in the kitchen, where we upheld our family tradition of passing down these spicy recipes from mother to daughter.”
